I spy with my Illinois eye.
Unity? Or a sock puppet show?
Cook County Commissioner Tim Schneider, a close ally of Gov. Bruce Rauner, was unanimously re-elected chairman of the Illinois Republican Party in Springfield Saturday morning.
Mark Shaw is the new co-chair for conservative and grassroots outreach and will lead the county chairman’s association.
This is supposed to be a big show of unity with the Rauner wing and the non-Rauner (conservative wing) coming together as one party.
But how can Mark Shaw represent the non-Rauner wing of the party when Shaw himself has received financial backing from Rauner in 2012?
Shaw’s comments about political contributions
In 2012, Mark Shaw was running against Scott Drury for the open 58th House seat.
Mark Shaw said that “Mr. Drury has been bought and paid for by Mike Madigan and the supporters of Mike Madigan” and that “Mike Madigan is trying to hang onto all of his power in the state of Illinois. He’s received tens of thousands of dollars from Mike Madigan to be elected state representative”.
Shaw said that “Mr. Madigan doesn’t give out tens of thousands of dollars and not expect something in return.”
Shortly thereafter Mark Shaw accepted thousands of dollars in contributions from Bruce Rauner in the same race. Who is bought and paid for now?
