Based on a recent WBEZ report, you’d think the story of 13 deaths at a state-run veterans’ home in Quincy, Illinois was breaking news. It’s not.

WBEZ reports that 13 people at a state veteran’s home in downstate Quincy have died from Legionnaires’ disease since 2015. In the summer of 2015, 53 residents and staff at the home contracted the disease and five more tested positive in 2016. Earlier this year, three more people tested positive and another veteran died from Legionnaires. The Governor’s office was contacted about the outbreak by a state Veterans’ Affairs spokesman on August 24, 2015.
